Projects
Currently, my major project is the Democracy Policy Network, an interstate policy network that works to raise up ideas for deepening democracy. Through the Democracy Policy Network, I host the podcast This is What Democracy Looks Like.
I am also co-producing a documentary on the life and work of social scientist, civic guru, and Bowling Alone author Robert Putnam.
I help out with two podcasts: The Current Affairs Podcast, a podcast for the lefty magazine, Current Affairs; and Dorothy’s Place, a podcast for the localist-new urbanist-cooperative-radical Christian online community Solidarity Hall.
In 2015, I co-founded Getaway, a startup that provides simple, unplugged escapes to tiny cabins outside of major cities. You can read about the spirit behind Getaway in Jon Staff and my book, How to Get Away.
You can see information about some of my past projects here:
- CommonPlace, a web platform for local community engagement
- Strong Returns, a prison reform project
- Time for a Raise, a campaign for a minimum wage raise
- The Public Project Program, a civic education project
- The Harvard Law Forum, a speaker series
- Harvard Thinks Big, an annual idea-sharing event at Harvard College.
In the coming years, I hope to develop Solidarity Virginia, a localist, solidarity-building group in the spirit of Dorothy Day, Jane Addams, Fred Rogers and Wendell Berry.
